The
Federation of Visual Artist is organising a new project called Coronie
2004. In August expositions will be held in various parts of the country.
National and international visual artists are invited to participate on
this Art-project. National Artists from other art disciplines such as music, dance, photography and literature also are invited to participate in the Art-project “Coronie 2004.”
At the
end of the Art-project, the artist with the best performance will receive
an award.
The
concept is “Coronie 2004”.
Coronie
has problems and opportunities. On the other hand there are various opportunities for Coronie. An example is the position of Coronie between Paramaribo and Nw Nickerie as a tourist stop.
What
can Visual Art do for Coronie?
How can
Visual Art increase the awareness and comprehension of people for the
environment of Coronie?
An
experiment in visual art
Coronie,
land of milk, coconuts and honey!
During
a natural phenomenon called “Krabulaw”, the nature of Coronie expresses a
metamorphosis. This “Krabulaw” occurs once a year when thousands of crabs
come on land with spring-tide. Coronie especially is known for his coconuts and honey, although the district also has other sources of income. There also will be Art Education in this project. The FVAS has invited Art students of Nola Hatterman Institute, the Academy for Art and Culture Education (AHKCO) and the Institute for Training of Teachers (IOL) to participate in this project. Within “Coronie 2004” Art students have the chance to experience experimental Art. The appreciation for, the orientation on and connection to the international art world will be stimulated. Students from the Tata Colin School (secondary school) Coronie are also invited to participate in order to stimulate art appreciation. The aim is to stimulate the youth of Coronie to become more aware of themselves and their environment, through creative and artistic experience.
There
will be an award to stimulate top performances. A national jury will
select participants with the best performance. The jury or curator of the
foreign “Artist in Residence” country will choose the best artist for
their exchange program. This artist will be the award-winner. The award also has to stimulate Surinamese artists to focus upon the international art world. The award winner also will be an ambassador. He or she will present our documentary of Coronie 2004 abroad. Not only Visual Artists will participate, but also Musicians, Dancers, Photographers and Writhers are invited to participate in this Art-project. The funding for a book enclosed with a multimedia CD as documentary of this Art-project is one of our main issue at the moment.

De FVAS is op het moment druk bezig met een nieuw kunstproject genaamd “ Coronie 2004”. Het project bestaat uit een kunstmanifestatie in het district Coronie in het Pinksterweekend De natuur, het materiaal uit de natuur en de omgeving van het district zullen centraal staan. Na het pinkster weekend zullen beeldende kunstenaars twee maanden lang werken in de individuele ateliers, aan de hand van het thema “Coronie”. In augustus worden op verschillende plaatsen exposities gehouden. Nationaal en internationaal worden beeldende kunstenaars uitgenodigd om aan het project mee te doen. De Nederlandse kunstenares Ellen Ligteringen is reeds ingegaan op de uitnodiging. Zij zal vanuit de combinatie beeldende kunst en omgevingspsychologie een extra bijdrage leveren in de vorm van een presentatie en een workshop. Nationaal zijn kunstenaars uit andere kunstdisciplines zoals muziek, dans, literatuur/ poezie en fotografie ook uitgenodigd een bijdrage leveren aan Coronie 2004. Het project zal afgesloten met een award-uitreiking aan de beeldend kunstenaar met de beste ‘performance’ en een uitgave van een boekje en een CD over het project.

beeldende kunst betekenen voor Coronie?
Hoe kan de
beeldende kunst wat betekenen voor het bewust en inzichtelijk maken van de
omgeving?
Een
experiment in de beeldende kunst
Coronie,
land van melk, cocos en honing!
De natuur
van Coronie ondergaat ten tijde van het natuurverschijnsel ‘Krabulaw’ een
gedaantewisseling, als eens per jaar met springvloed, duizenden krabben
uit de zee, het land op komen. Coronie staat voornamelijk bekend om zijn cocos en bijenteelt, ondanks dat het ook andere middelen van bestaan kent. Aan het project is een kunsteducatief gedeelte worden gekoppeld. De FVAS heeft de studenten van het Nola Hatterman Instituut, de Academie voor Hoger Kunst en Cultuur Onderwijs (AHKCO) en het Instituut voor de Opleiding van Leraren (IOL) benaderd om mee te doen. Binnen “Coronie 2004” krijgen kunststudenten de kans de nadruk te leggen op het experiment. De appreciatie voor, de orientatie op, en de aansluiting bij de internationale kunstwereld wordt bij hen gestimuleerd. Ook de scholieren van de VOJ-school ‘Tata Colin’ (MULO/LBGO) te Coronie zijn uitgenodigd om mee te doen, met als doel de kunstappreciatie bij de schooljeugd te bevorderen. Middels creatieve beeldende verkenningen worden zij bewust gemaakt van zichzelf en hun eigen omgeving.
Met het uitreiken van een award wil de FVAS, kunstenaars te stimuleren om topprestaties te leveren. Een nationale commissie zal een selectie maken van participanten die de allerbeste prestaties leveren. In de voorbereidende fase wordt onderzocht welke jury door de kunstenaars als deskundig wordt gezien. De curator/ jury van de buitenlandse “Artist in Residence” plaats kiest uit wie van deze finalisten het beste in het programma van de “Artist in Residence” plaats past. Deze kunstenaar wint de award. Deze award heeft ook tot doel Surinaamse kunstenaars te stimuleren zich te orienteren op en te proberen aansluiting te vinden bij, de internationale kunstwereld. De award-winnaar zal ook een ambassadeursfunktie bekleden en bijvoorbeeld het documentatie materiaal van het kunstproject “Coronie 2004” in het buitenland presenteren.
Naast kunstenaars zullen er ook muziekanten, dansers, schrijvers en fotograven een bijdrage leveren aan het project. Het streven is er opgericht om een multimedia CD en een boekje als documentatie van het project te produceren.
