Ordinary members are visual artists who are pursuing their artistic career in an active and productive way, participating in solo exhibitions or group exhibitions. Junior members are people who plan to become a visual artist in the near future, for example art students. Extraordinary members are those individuals or organizations who are not visual artists but who want to play an active role to support and promote visual arts in Suriname, such as educational institutions, art promoters, art galleries and art writers.
Honorary members are chosen by the board, and at least two third of the votes of members attending the meeting, because of their exceptional contributions to the field of visual arts in Suriname, over a long period of time. Donors are those who support the federation only through funding, and have been approved of as such by the board.
Only ordinary members have the right to vote. Junior members, extraordinary members, honorary members and donors have an advisory role.
One can apply for ordinary, junior and extraordinary membership by filling in a form which can be obtained by contacting the FVAS. Minors need the signature of their legal guardian when applying for membership.
