History

In 1997 there were several meetings between visual artists. Since 1981 the last organisation of workers in the filed of visual art had been disbanded. And again there was a need for collaboration between small groups and individuals in the art world of Suriname.
In December 1997 at the end of the year festival Surifesta, 16 visual artists decided to participate in an art manifestation in this festival. The art manifestation became a big success and the group decided to found the Federation of Visual Artists in Suriname. On October 17, this Federation of Visual Artists in Suriname, abbreviated FVAS was founded by 6 visual artists who became the first members of the board.
